technology survey experience

After discussing the survey questions with my group we agreed on many of the questions but the question that we choose to discuss was question number 31, do you agree that technology can be addictive? We agreed that technology can be addicted and we talkd about a story when Johnny fogot his cell phone at home and despritly needed to get ahold of one of his friends but couldnt because he did not have his cell phone. He said that he felt naked without it.

After reading Nye’s article I found that I agree with a lot of what he said, I agree that the word technology is a slippery term. In today’s society I feel that technology refers to phones, computers, personal organizers, mp3 players, televisions, etc. But I do not think that technology officially defines them because there is so much more to come over the years. Who knows what there will be 100 years from now and the things that we think define technology now could be nothing in the future because everyday we see improvements of things. Technology is always improving and we can never fully expect what there is to come.

http://www.engrade.com/mrsnodgrass
Engrade makes it possible for students to easily access their grades. It also allows them to view their upcoming tests and quizzes as well as any homework assignments that will be due. I choose this website because i thought that it would help the students stay organized and caught up on their work.

Gameclassroom is a good website to help kids practice their math. It challenges them but still makes it fun so that they do not get bored with what they are doing. I think this will be helpful because it gives the students a fun but challenging way to practice the math that they are learning in school.

http://www.trackclass.com/dashboard
Trackclass sends students reminders and notes to help them stay organized and to remind them of upcoming assignments they have due. You can keep notes on this program that can be easily accessed so that students have no trouble finding them and reviewing them before a test or quiz. I think this program will be helpful to students because it keeps them on track and gives them reminders of due dates.

http://www.gramlee.com/index.html
Gramlee checks students papers for grammar, punctuation, spelling, structure, and readability. I feel that this would be helpful to students because many times students get points taken off of their papers because of simple mistakes that they missed while they were proofreading. If they sent their papers to gramlee before they turn it in then they wont have to worry about missing easy points on their papers.

http://www.sortfix.com/
Sortfix gives you the best ways to search the internet. It helps improve you search result, giving you better information. I feel that Sortfix will be beneficial to students because many times they have trouble finding legitimate information needed to write research papers or to do other assignments.

Having the right resources when you are trying to learn makes all the difference. Providing the right sources for students is something that i hope i can always do for my students and i feel that i will be able to do so by using some of the web 2.0 apps.

After interviewing several students on the John Carroll University campus about an ideal course web site i have found that most people are wanting to be able to get the same thing out of it. They all said that it would be helpful to be able to track their grades and upcoming assignments so that they can know what is expected to be done each day in class as well as how they did on each of their assignments. The students that i interviewed also suggested that there were daily notes, power points, and study guides posted on the website that could be easily accessed to help better prepare them for a test.

I feel that clickcaster and engrade would facilitate my learning learning style. Clickcaster would help me because it allows you to video tape a lecture and download it so that i would be able to re-watch the lecture at a later time. Engrade would benefit me because it would allow me to keep track of my grade and upcoming assignments. For my class I feel like the kids would benefit most from carrotsticks and game classroom. Carrot sticks helps kids from grades 1 through 5 with simple math and multiplication while game classroom offers help with grammar as well as other subjects.
